BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE
The Dual Induction Laterolog-8 Instrument provides the conductivity data necessary to estimate the effects of mud filtrate invasion and to resolve true formation resistivity. Four measurements are recorded simultaneously:
Deep Induction ;Shallow Focused Laterolog;Medium Induction ;SP .
To achieve different diameters of investigation, the dual induction section consists of a transmitter (three coils) plus two receivers: IL Deep (three coils) and IL Medium (five coils). Proper combination of this eleven-coil system controls the focusing; the coil spacings, number of turns, and direction of turns determines the contribution to the total in-phase signals induced into the receiver coils. This multi-coil arrangement also cancels the mutual inductance between the transmitter-receiver circuits.
The Laterolog section is a multiple-electrode, constant-voltage device engineered to overcome the adverse effects of highly conductive drilling fluids, to detect and measure thin permeable beds in highly resistive formations, and to aid in the interpretation of invasion profiles.
Detailed descriptions of the individual induction and laterolog circuits are provided in Circuit Descriptions
